Frequently asked questions

What is metadata, and why would I want to remove it?

Metadata is hidden information inside a file: who created it, with what device, when, and for photos often the exact GPS location where the photo was taken. Before posting a photo online or sharing a document, it's smart to strip that out, otherwise you share more than you think.

What are tracking parameters in a link, and are they bad?

Those ?utm_source=... and ?fbclid=... bits at the end of a URL tell the recipient which campaign, email, or click brought you there. Useless for you; valuable for advertisers and analytics. A clean link is shorter, less awkward to share, and reveals nothing about your path.

How safe is a password generated in my browser?

Our password generator uses crypto.getRandomValues(), the same source your browser uses for SSL keys. No server round-trip, no log. What stays in your browser can't be read by us either.
