Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Compression happens entirely in your browser; nothing goes to a server. Close the tab and it's all gone.

Does the text stay sharp and selectable?

Yes. Only the photos and scans (JPEG images) in the PDF are shrunk. Text, lines and layout are left untouched and stay selectable.

Why doesn't my PDF get (much) smaller?

The biggest savings come from photos and scans. A PDF that's mostly text is usually already small, so there's little to gain. CMYK and transparent images are also skipped to stay safe.

Which setting should I pick?

'Medium' is a good balance of size and quality. Pick 'Strong' for the smallest file (for email, say) or 'Light' if the images need to stay crisp.
